چکیده

In this paper, we propose a procedure that directly polygonizes the boundary surface of CSG solids. The procedure consists of a preprocessing step and a polygonization process followed by a postprocessing that recovers rounded edges and corners. In the preprocessing step, the minimum bounding volumes, called S-bounds, of all nodes in the given CSG tree are computed and then used as a basis for subdividing the S-bound of the tree’s root. In addition, a regular grid embedded on the root’s Sbound is constructed. The polygonization is performed in such a way that among leaf voxels of the space subdivision only voxels that overlap the solid’s boundary are traversed and inside such voxels only grid cells transversal to the solid’s boundary are tracked. The surface*dge intersections and vertex normals are computed directly from the exact boundary surfaces of the CSG solid. In the postprocessing step, rounded edges and corners are detected and recovered using primitive geometry. Q 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

Non-evaluated Manipulation of Complex CSG Solids

One of the most important problems to solve in Solid Modeling is computing boolean operations for solids (union, intersection and difference). In this paper we present a method to obtain the boolean operators based on covering the solids by simplices without evaluating the boundary. The representation of the obtained solid does not correspond with the minimal boundary of the solid, but using th...

Efficient and accurate B-rep generation of low degree sculptured solids using exact arithmetic: I - representations

We present e cient representations and algorithms for exact boundary computation on low degree sculptured CSG solids using exact arithmetic. Most of the previous work using exact arithmetic has been restricted to polyhedral models. In this paper, we generalize it to higher order objects, whose boundaries are composed of rational parametric surfaces. We present the underlying representations nec...

A Face Area Evaluation Algorithm for Solids in CSG Representation

This paper presents a scan curve algorithm for evaluating the face area of solids in constructive solid geometry (CSG) representation. Compared to previous methods, the algorithm is more accurate and computationally faster. The applicable domain is limited to solids bounded by three classes of surfaces: all quadric surfaces, cylindrical surfaces, and surfaces of revolution which are algebraic s...

2 Boundary Computation of Csg Models with Nurbs Primitives

We present eecient and accurate algorithms for Boolean combinations of solids composed of sculptured models. The boundary of each solid is represented as a collection of trimmed spline surfaces and a connectivity graph. Based on algorithms for trapezoidation of polygons , partitioning of polygons using polygonal chains, surface intersection of high degree spline surfaces and ray-shooting, the b...

High Speed and High Fidelity Visualization of Complex CSG Models

We present a system for fast and accurate display of CSG (constructive solid geometry) models. Such models have as primitives, polyhedra and solids whose boundaries can be represented using rational spline surfaces. As a part of pre-processing, we compute the Brep (boundary representation) from the CSG tree and represent the resulting solid using trimmed spline surfaces. No assumptions are made...
